I’ve been over at Lydia’s (Mathew’s little sister) house quite often, recently… We’ve been making bags out of bags… It’s real fun, but harder than it looks… In fact, I messed up so drastically in the crocheting process that I have to start over again.
Steps for Making a Fairly Large Tote
Step 1: Collect or buy 100 some bags
Step 2: Cut the handles and the bottom off. (You can do a couple of bags at a time.)
Step 3: Fold vertically 2 times.
Step 4: Cut horizontally into 1 – 1.5 inch pieces.
Step 5: Once finished cutting, make sure your peices create loops.
Step 6: Figure out how you want your bag to look. (If you want random or organized.)
Step 7: If you chose random then you won’t have to make your yarn in a particular order. However, if you want it organized then you’ll have to seperate the colors.
Step 8: Once you’ve figured it all out, start making yarn. To do so take two loops. Put one under the other. Now put the one you just put under through itself. Tighten until the knot is small. Be careful not to stretch the loop. Once you think you have enough yarn for the size of a ball start rapping.
Step 9: I made 13 balls just to make sure I wouldn’t have to make any more… Believe me, you won’t want to do more!
Step 10: Once you’ve got your balls, take a break. Your fingers are going to need some rest.
Step 11: Once you’ve taken a sufficient nap, start crocheting in a circular motion.
To be honest this post is long as it is, so if you’re interested and want more in depth details on how to crochet the bag, I’d be happy to email you or make an appointment to teach you… Take some time to think about it, it’s a big under taking!
Yours Truly,
Daisy

P.S. Hope to right more soon! Have utter patience with me…
Here is what one looks like. Pretty cool, right? Still working on mine, so not that big yet!
